Added 2023 tour dates, new song on Patreon

Hi Reader!

Greetings from Colorado, where I just finished a lovely run of shows in Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins. (Special shout-out to Friday night's crowd at the Soiled Dove, who were everything I could ever want an audience to be, and the climate action workshop crew on Saturday, a mighty group if there ever was one.)

This is my first time back to the Front Range since moving away in 2019, and I'd forgotten how dramatic the clouds are here, and how the mountains and Great Plains remind you constantly of your place in the family of things. It's been good to introduce Arcadia to the fine art of boulder-scrambling, too.

NEW TOUR DATES!

This Friday, July 21, I'll be playing in Novato, CA at HopMonk Tavern's outdoor, all-ages concert series, with duo The Singer & The Songwriter opening. So excited to doing a show presented by KC Turner, who's a Bay Area legend when it comes to connecting independent artists with audiences.

Later this fall & winter, we've added dates in NYC and Ann Arbor as well, with climate action workshops before each.

Fri 21 Jul @ 6:00pm PDT - Novato, CA - HopMonk Tavern
Sat 23 Sep @ 7:00pm & 9:30pm EDT - New York, NY - Joe's Pub (2 shows + climate workshop)
Sun 17 Dec @ 7:30pm EST - Ann Arbor, MI - The Ark (+ climate workshop)

Full event calendar, as always, is at viennateng.com/tour.

NEW SONG ON PATREON

Progress has been so slow on the songwriting front that I finally made a pact with myself: no more buying shampoo until I finished a new song. After a few dicey weeks of using Dr. Bronner's soap on my already-prone-to-frizz hair, I'm relieved to report that I have a new bit of music - that I'm quite taken with, at that. It also helped that I had a genuine deadline: making it into Ben Arthur's wonderful SongWriter podcast. Speaking of which, I had a tremendous co-writer on this one, albeit collaborating across time as well as distance...

While the song and podcast episode won't be released for a little while yet, I'm sharing the recording and the story behind it on Patreon. For those especially into hearing works in progress, I also played a half-finished version of it a few weeks ago in the monthly livestream show from my living room.

I am perennially grateful for the support, both financial and emotional, from my patron community that allows me to spend time on things like learning new recording equipment and excavating lyrics, as well as hosting workshops and traveling with family when I tour. Thank you for making it possible for me to be a musician in the era of motherhood and climate change.

With great love,
VT

Well Reader... I meant to share some updates back in December, or at least January...or February. I never was good at getting holiday cards out on time, and apparently I'm no better with newsletters. Mea culpa. At least we got Lunar New Year cards out This past fall & winter were jam-packed and joyful, pulling me well beyond my comfort zone (a collaboration with Viano Quartet! hosting a 50-person climate solutions dinner party!), and into various long-overdue parts of the country (West...

Hi Reader... Well, what a sweet way to land back home from tour. Thanks to all of YOU who've joined a climate action workshop on tour, signed up for office hours, browsed the starter list of useful actions, joined the monthly Patreon hangouts, or worked with me one-on-one to figure out what you can do...I'm on this year's Grist 50 list of "climate leaders you should know"! From Grist's lovely writeup: While musicians have a rich history of raising awareness for social causes, Teng takes it a...

Hi Reader, I have an exciting update coming in a few weeks (teaser: I'll be a speaker in an awards event at Climate Week NYC!), but I want to share some more immediate news. My November 21 show at World Cafe Live in Philadephia is canceled - BUT we’ve moved it just a bit down Interstate 95 to The Queen in Wilmington, Delaware, a beautiful venue I’ve been wanting to play for a while. Tickets are on sale as of today! Also, in a mere two days - Saturday Aug 30 - I'll be playing an outdoor show...
