"Two Truths" music video is out, micro-workshops this week

Hey there Reader...

The final installment of my music video trilogy, "Two Truths," is out! And boy, do its themes of looking out for each other in tumultuous times feel relevant right now.

(You may recognize yourself flashing by, somewhere around the 3:28 mark - if so, thank you for sending in footage that helped make this amazing moment in the video possible!)

From an interview I did with V13 Media about the project:

I gave a kind of impossible task to my music-video collaborators: this song is actually two different songs that I wrote to be played at the same time. Each of those two songs has its own video: one is stop-motion animation, by Andrew Benincasa, and the other is live-action, by Steve Milligan. This video is the intercut and extension of the two, where it’s revealed how the two songs and the two videos relate to each other.
The lyrics of the song are about interdependence. So we wanted a video that felt like two different worlds connecting in unexpected ways.

Speaking of interdependence, I'd love to celebrate the Two Truths video release with you...

This week: Two Truths micro-workshops

Right now things are...a lot, aren't they? Personally, I've been feeling both overwhelmed and determined. Doing small things that feel both pointless and the whole point at the same time. Trying to stay kind, stay curious, stay focused when there's a lot of rage and distraction floating in the air. It's not coming easily. I've been wanting to gather with my people, even if briefly, and take a deep breath together.

So this week I'm trying something new: Two Truths "micro-workshops"! Starting tomorrow evening, I'll be hosting brief online gatherings to reflect on whatever two truths you're holding in your head & heart. We'll use the three "We've Got You" music videos as scaffolding - think of it as part watch party, part guided meditation. 20, maybe 30 minutes tops. I hope you'll join me.

April tour in Germany (+ 1 day in Austria)

Online is great, but in person's even better. I'm so looking forward to returning to Germany soon for more solo tour dates - and one show in neighboring Austria! (Friends in other nearby countries, I so wish we could've added you to the itinerary. We're working on it, I promise you.)

Some other things I've found helpful lately

February Album Writing Month: Though I fell quite short of actually finishing 14 songs in 28 days, I did debut 3 (!) new songs on last month's Patreon livestream

The music - and example - of Gina Chavez, Allison Russell and so many other fantastic artists I got to see at Folk Alliance International in Montreal

Tangle News has been useful for getting out of my political news bubble (without just falling into another one) - it's designed to expose you to perspectives you disagree with, and to facts/context you may be missing

Doing silly stuff for a good cause, like the Polar Bear Plunge - thanks to everyone who helped me raise $1,900 (!) for Chesapeake Climate Action Network! Also thank you to my backup dancer who stole the show at the kickoff celebration

Plus thought-provoking interviews on The Ezra Klein Show, Washington Post's tracker of executive order court cases, and intriguing new nonfiction books like Abundance, Stuck and The Siren's Call

How are you doing?

As always, I'd genuinely love to know. What have you found helpful lately? What fills your days? What pulls you awake at night? What keeps you going?

Love,
VT

Hi Reader, I know it's only been a few weeks since my last send, but some seasons the news comes quickly... Announcing Multitudes II: A Gathering For Multi-Faceted People, November 6-10, 2025! Alex Wong and I had a truly amazing time at the first-ever Multitudes last September. As we kept saying afterwards, "wow, everyone really understood the assignment." A power outage the first night just meant we kicked things off sitting in a circle on the living room floor, passing a giant stuffed...

Here's a holiday-ish story for you, Reader... Why are there 40 pounds of toasted shredded coconut in my hallway? Well, it all started with an innocent brainstorming session... We've Got You: the era of overthinking With as delicately constructed a music project as We've Got You, it seemed time for a new merch collection: one as clever and, well, overthought as the songs. So we created some special limited-edition items, including one that just went up on the store: an engraved flash drive...

Hi Reader... I have music coming out this Friday, and tour dates coming up, but that's not why I'm writing. (Not mainly, anyway.) Yesterday I ran into one of my favorite neighbors. She's always upbeat, ever inviting people to something fun she's organizing. But yesterday she seemed jittery, oddly subdued as our kids ran around a courtyard together and shared snacks. Finally she sat down. "Sorry," she said. "I've got election anxiety. It's hard to think about anything else." She looked up....
